Thought For The Day – Grief and Hope

I had my first experience of the death of someone I actually knew, with Covid-19

How to respond? Jesus helps us in John 11 as he faces the death of Lazarus.

Grief

Jesus weeps at the tomb. It is right to grieve and mourn death in the breaking of contact, and all it symbolises about the broken sinful world we live in.

Hope

Jesus says in John 11 verse 25 ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 

We grieve with hope

    A few years ago I was asked to read at the funeral of a friend – 1 Thessalonians 4: 13 to 18. Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. (Read on …….)
