Thought for the Day – Staying Sane in a Mad World #3

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvellous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!

Psalm 139 vs. 13 – 18 (NLT)

Did you know there are more referrals of young people to the mental health service than ever before? I am told the figures are ‘through the roof’. Why might that be? Is part of the reason that kids today just don’t know who they are or why they are here? They have lost their sense of identity.

In 2018 in England and Wales there were 205,295 abortions. To put this in perspective, consider this. Over 1 in 4 babies conceived are deliberately aborted. I don’t blame the women who have the abortions, I blame the terrible system that devalues human life.

We live in mad world where people don’t know who they are or why they are here because they have lost touch with the living God. No wonder teenagers have mental health problems. No wonder human life in the womb is not treated with dignity. God has been air-brushed out of the culture and it just doesn’t work.

What a different perspective from the world around us we have in the Bible. How wonderful that God knew about us when we were still in the womb. With breathtaking skill God made you in the secret place of your mum’s womb – amazing. It was a precious thought to David who wrote this Psalm that he was made specially by God and it can be precious to you. Let that thought help you live better in this mad, mad world this week

Lord, I pray that the children growing up right now will know they are special not just because mum and dad love them but because they know that you formed them and loved them before they were born and made them in an amazing way.
