Imagine: Serving without sinking

This short series about connecting our relationship with God and everyday life.

1. Wrong views of God lead to joy-less service

We serve Jesus to be good enough.
We serve Jesus to get something from Him.
We serve Jesus to pay Him back.

2. Wrong view of people and myself leads to joy-less service

I serve to impress others.
I serve to belong.
I serve because I think Jesus needs me.
I serve not needing Jesus.
Wrong view of serving always leads to bitterness and joy-lessness.

3. A right view of God leads to Joyful service

Jesus serves us.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45

4. A right view of ourselves leads to joyful service

We are friends with the boss.

“Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” – John 15:13-15

We are the brides of the King.

“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Saviour” – Ephesians 5:23

“For the Wedding of the lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready, fine linen, bright and clean was given her to wear. Fine linen stands for the righteous act of the Saints.” – Revelation 19:7-8

We are Sons of the Father.

“So you are no longer a slave but a Son; and since you are a Son, God has made you also an heir” – Galatians 4:7

We are servants…
But in context of other relationships.

Serve from love

When I have understood rightly who Jesus is.
and rightly my identity.
Then I will begin to see I am not compelled to serve or obliged to serve.
BUT motivated to serve flowing from love.
