Why is there something and someone?

We are here! You and I exist and so does the earth, the universe and all that’s in between.

But how did we all get here and why?

Something is here

We know from experience that everything has a cause so we know that something or someone caused the universe to begin. To put it in logical steps

1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause of its existence.

2. The universe began to exist. (by the way it’s not possible to argue logically that it does not have a beginning)

3. Therefore, the universe has a cause of its existence.

Who or what caused the spark that ignited the universe into light and life? We know there had to be a beginning and the cause of the beginning can’t be just another dependant being, because that’s not a beginning, it’s just another link in the chain. It has to be an un-caused truly independent first cause.

The first cause was God.

Someone is here

Perhaps you want to say something other than God was the first cause. But we are more than things. We are persons.

We are self-conscious and self-determining. We evaluate and make choices. We love and hate, experiencing joy and sorrow. We appreciate beauty and harmony. We value truth and justice
We communicate, create and imagine. We aspire to purpose and significance We sense that we are persons not machines

SomeONE cannot be made from someTHING.

The someone was God

Why are we here?

What does our existence mean, or does it mean nothing at all? Why do we want to survive? Who said existence is better than non-existence. Why do we invest our experiences with significance when according to evolution they are merely moments of meaningless achievement that will not be remembered by what Richard Dawkins calls the “blind pitiless indifference.” of all that exists. And yet we know there is purpose. We’re confused as to what it is, but we instinctively know that there is more to life than chemicals randomly combining.

The purpose is God.

To know God. To enjoy God. To worship God. That’s the answer.
The more fundamental question is this: do you actually want to know the answer? May be a world without God suits you better.
