Dead and buried (John 19:28 to 42)

Graham Nicholls

Anyone’s death is sad. Some seem to be a particularly harrowing or tragic. Jesus’ death was sad, and certainly a cruel and painful experience and it is described sympathetically by the gospel writers. But their focus is on the significance – what it means, how it connects to the rest of the Bible and how it relates to us right now. In this section John shows us the finished work of Jesus as God’s perfect lamb to take away our sin and make us clean. He died and his lifeless body was laid in a grave. Like us he waits for resurrection.
