Re-commitment 2018

At the beginning of each year we as a church say words of dedication and commitment to Christ, the gospel and to each other.

It’s a great opportunity as the year begins to rehearse what we believe as Christians and to reflect on our commitments as members of Christ Church Haywards Heath.

Here are the words we will be using this coming  Sunday, 21st January 2018

Do you believe and trust in God the Father?

I believe in God the Father, almighty creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ?

I believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried;

On the third day he rose again,

He ascended into heaven,

is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and He will come again to judge

the living and the dead.

How are you made right with God?

I am made right with God

Only by true faith in Jesus Christ.
Even though my conscience accuses me

of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments

and of never having kept any of them,

and even though I am still inclined toward all evil,

Nevertheless, without my deserving it at all,

out of sheer grace,

God grants and credits to me

the perfect satisfaction, righteousness and holiness of Christ

as if I had never sinned nor been a sinner

as if I had been as perfectly obedient

as Christ was obedient for me.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit who is, together with the Father and the Son, true and eternal God.

He inspired the prophets and is sent by the Father and the Son to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

He applies Christ’s work of salvation to sinners as he imparts spiritual life bringing conviction of sin and giving a true understanding of the Scriptures.

He lives in all believers, bringing assurance of salvation and producing increasing likeness to Christ.

Do you believe in the Church?

I believe in the church, the community of believers saved by repentance and faith in Christ for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Will you live to please God, according to what is written in His Word and when you fall into sin, will you repent and return to the Lord?

With the help of God, I will.

Will you continue to love and accept one another, irrespective of background, ability, outlook or temperament?

With the help of God, we will.

Will you continue to support one another and the ministry of the church through prayer, fellowship, finance and practical help?

With the help of God, we will.

Will you continue to attend the meetings of the church for teaching, prayer and the Lord’s Supper?

With the help of God I will.

Will you bear witness to Christ in the world, not being ashamed of him or his words?

With the help of God, I will.
