BREXIT – Article 50

On the day the the UK government has triggered article 50, we should pray for our nation, work for unity and preach the gospel.

Do not wring your hands in despair or rub them together in glee but lift them up in prayer for our leaders. Paul says to Timothy, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

Pray that our leaders would be given wisdom in their negotiations

Pray that any settlements will just and fair to all parties

Pray that divisions in our country may be healed

Pray for peace and security

Pray for the prosperity of our nation but not at the expense of others

Pray that in times of uncertainty the gospel may be preached and solid foundations built

Some of us longed for this day and some of us have been dreading it. Work for unity within the church and in our divided country. Re-assure those who feel disturbed or anxious.

Preach the gospel. The events of the last year has shown people their deep need of a leader we can rely on. Tell people about King Jesus; union with him is all that matters.

Without him – HARD or SOFT Brexit – we have no hope for the future.

Lord, have mercy on us. Show the nations your glory in the face of Jesus Christ.
