Mission Sunday – 10 May 2020

Sunday 10th May 2020 was our Church Gift Day, a day we set aside each year where we have an extended time of fellowship and learning on a particular topic to do with cross-cultural mission. If you missed it, you can watch the Gift Day service above.

Each year, we aim to raise money and awareness for particular causes over the course of the day. We encourage you to make a gift above and beyond our normal giving to those in need around the world.

Things will be different from the norm this year as our mission Sunday will be virtual. Both the morning service and evening Q&A session will be available to watch and engage with from your own homes. We do still have a special guest who will be joining us via video link but unfortunately, there will be no ploughman’s lunch (unless you have one with your own household of course!).

This year we have Matthew Skirton joining us to talk about his experience with cross-cultural mission. Matthew and his wife, Helen, joined OM in 1994. They began their ministry in Eastern Europe, pioneering OM’s ministry in Moldova and leading the OM mission team there from 1995-2015. Together with their 5 children, Hanna, Lydia, Rachel, David and James, they now live in Shropshire, England, where they serve with OM in the UK.

Matthew is the UK National Director, overseeing the ministry across the UK as OM seeks to mobilise people to involve in mission work among the least reached. He regularly preaches and speaks at churches, Christian events and conferences.

Here’s how the day will look and we really hope you can join us for as much of it as possible:

10:30am – Sunday Morning Service – The whole service will be focused on cross-cultural mission. We’ll hear about some of the ministries we partner with and Matthew Skirton will be preaching.
Watch the full service here.

6:30 – 7:30pm – Q&A Session – This will again be with Matthew Skirton and there will be time for discussion.
Watch the discussion here.

Where is the money going?

The money raised on the day from donations made by members will be split between two ministries:

  1. Supporting Aeron Caldeo who you may remember from a recent church meeting will be joining us as a Ministry Trainee in September 2020 (all being well). The money will go towards Aeron’s expenses as he and his family plan to move here for at least a year. You can watch an interview Nick McQuaker did with Aeron here.
  2. Give a gift to Operation Mobilisation (OM) as they seek to serve God in His mission in more than 110 countries around the world, and through their ship, Logos Hope.
