A Christian ministry for people with learning difficulties
Causeway Prospects is a group with Bible teaching for those with learning difficulties, which meets once a month.
Causeway is based on two main principles. Firstly, that all people should have an opportunity to hear the Christian message including those with learning disabilities, and secondly, all people are capable of responding to the Christian message because it is a matter of belief and trust, not intellect and ability.
In the UK one in fifty people have learning disabilities and Causeway seeks to befriend such people, explain the Christian message in a relevant way, and provide a sympathetic environment where people can grow in their understanding and respond to the message.

Causeway is a church based ministry affiliated to a national organisation called Prospects. Central to the work of Causeway at Christ Church, Haywards Heath is a monthly meeting dedicated to people with learning disabilities. Here friendships are built through spending time together in a group setting. The Bible is taught in an easy to understand way with the help of visual aids and drama. Opportunity is given to the group to respond through discussion, reading, singing, playing percussion instruments, and praying.
The meetings have been running since 1990 and many of the people who attend have grown in their awareness of God and have found personal fulfilment through believing and trusting in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that God has a special concern for the disadvantaged in society and there is clear evidence that through Causeway God is blessing people with learning disabilities.
The main monthly meetings are usually held on the last Sunday of each month. The meetings run from 3.00pm to 4.30pm with the first hour taken up with singing, sharing, praying, and Bible teaching. The last half-hour is given over to refreshments and a time to chat with one another.
Between 15 and 25 people, including team members, attend the meetings. People come from Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, and from a range of situations including residential homes and supported living within the community.
The meetings are open to all people with learning disabilities, not just those who attend church, and further information is available on telephone number 01444 450190. If you think these meetings could be of a benefit to you or a relative or friend then please do not hesitate to call us.
